ORANGEFIELD — An event benefiting local high school youth is back for another year.

Students of the Orangefield High School Agriculture Department, Horticulture and FFA programs will be having their second annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, March 25 at the Green House located next to the ag building on the campus of Orangefield High School, 10058 FM 105 in Orangefield.

“The purpose of the plant sale is to help generate support of our horticulture program, as well as our FFA program, and all of the students involved,” said Jessica Gates, AST/FFA Advisor at Orangefield High School.

Gates said there will be hundreds of plants of available for purchase, including numerous varieties of tomatoes such as early girl, celebrity, big boy, and beefsteak tomatoes. Several types of pepper plants, including jalapeno, banana and bell peppers, will also be on sale. Prices are $1 for a single plant or $3 for a four-pack of any plant.

“We had over 1,000 plants for sale last year, and we sold nearly all of them,” Gates added. “The green house is full of plants again, thanks to Farmer’s Mercantile which helped us acquire the plants. We are hoping to have the same kind of success this year.”
