Vidor ISD Community Education to host summer athletic camps

VIDOR — For kids wanting to hone their sports skills this summer, Vidor ISD Community Education has a wide variety of sports camps available.

Girls’ basketball camp will be held this coming week, Monday, June 10 through Thursday, June 13. Those entering grades three through five will meet from 9 a.m. until noon, and young ladies entering grades six through eight will work from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Coach Ricky Jacks is working hard to build a fabulous basketball program for young women, so this a great chance to get in on that.

There is a running camp also held by Coach Jacks. It will be Friday, June 17 through Thursday, June 20, and is a great chance for runners to work on their form and endurance. The camp meets early, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. to avoid the heat.

Boys’ basketball and co-ed soccer will both gear up on Monday, June 24 and run until Thursday, June 27. Basketball students meet on the same schedule as the girls. Soccer kids will meet as follows: Entering grades Kindergarten through second play from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m., students entering third, fourth or fifth grades will play from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., and kids entering grades six through eight will play from 6 p.m. through 8 p.m.

Patrons are urged to sign their children and grandchildren up as soon as possible. Camps fill quickly.

Other camps offered this summer are drama, music, junior high marching band, arts and crafts, cooking, animals, princess camp, and science for both elementary and junior high students. Call 951-8700 for further information, or visit the website,, choose the “community” drop-down, then create an account until Community Ed. and pay online.
