The public is invited to take a Christmas Stroll at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, at Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center to see the lighted trees throughout the grounds. Visit www.shangrilagardens.org for more info.

Class of 1969

The Class of 1969 will hold a meeting at 6 p.m., every Thursday, at DJ’s on Simmons Drive in Orange. All classmates are asked to attend if possible for planning of important business for holidays. Call Susie Murry at 409-988-5741 for info.

Pool tournament

The Fraternal Order of Eagles, 803 N. 28th St. in Orange, will host a pool tournament beginning at 8 p.m., every Friday. Prize money will given to first and second place winners. Food will be available. Call Sharon Bodin at 409-735-8662 or 409-719-7793 for info.

Jaycees Christmas Parade

The Orange Jaycees will hold its annual night-time Christmas Parade at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7. The parade route begins at the old Sears location on MacArthur Drive and travels down Green Avenue before concluding at Fourth Street in downtown Orange. The event is free and open to the public.

Pearl Harbor Remembrance

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2775 will present the video “Pearl Harbor” at 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, at the VFW Hall, 5303 N. 16th St. in Orange. Call Chairman John Clark at 409-883-0264 for more info.

Pet Safety with Santa Claus

Cecil Toyota, 2500 I-10 West in Orange, will have Pet Safety with Santa Claus from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8. We will have gift bags and treats for all visitors, plus the Humane Society, Local Vets and pet stores will be participating in this event. Pets will possibly be on display and offered for adoption also.

    Dr. Jay Killgo, Superintendent of Schools for the Vidor Independent School District, was the guest speaker at the Vidor Friends of the Library meeting this past week. Killgo discussed goals for the upcoming year for Vidor ISD and shared success stories, such as improved test scores and student achievement.

    Boys in Vidor ISD Community Education’s summer basketball camp had a great time this past week learning skills and drills. Other camps, which are open to anyone, not just Vidor residents, this summer are cooking, animals, princess camp, pirates, girls’ volleyball, drama, arts and crafts, science, soccer, and running.
