ORANGE — Class of 1978

The West Orange-Stark Class of 1978 will meet at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Spanky’s on 16th Street in Orange. Items to be discussed will consist of election of class officers and planning upcoming 35th class reunion.

Writer’s Guild

Orange County Christian Writers Guild will meet at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Brown Hearing Center, 105 Camellia, behind Dairy Queen in Orange. If you are a Christian writer or thinking about writing and don’t know where to start, this is the meeting for you. This first meeting will be electing officers, setting times, discussing the issues we would like to learn about, etc. This Writers Guild is intended to educate and encourage all who attend. Parkinson Awareness

Orange County Parkinson Awareness Support Group will meet at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, at JB’s Barbeque, 5750 Old Hwy 90 in Orange, for its Christmas Social Meeting. Contact Wanda Simar at 409-883-4912 or Ella Guillory 409-886-4877 for more information.

Christmas with Santa

The Heritage House Museum, 905 W. Division in Orange, invites the public to its Christmas with Santa from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, and Thursday, Dec. 6. Children are welcome to visit with Santa and parents can tour the house. The event is free. Call 409-886-5385 for info.

Toy Coffee

The Service League of Orange will hold its annual toy fundraising event, Toy Coffee, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, in the home of Frank and Sue Pritchard, 180 Greehead Point in the Waterwood subdivision in Orange. Guests are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy or a donation to the Salvation Army. The public is invited.

Plate lunch fundraiser

American Legion Post 49, 108 Green Ave. in Orange, will hold a plate lunch fundraiser from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6. Cost is $7 and meal consists of fried fish, potato salad, cole slaw, green beans, bread and dessert. Walk-in’s welcome and delivery available. For orders or delivery call 409-886-1241 after noon, Dec. 5 and before 9 a.m., Dec. 6.

    Due to the demand for highly qualified teachers who have received face-to-face instruction by highly experienced master teachers, the Alternative Certification for Educators Program, the ACE program, at Lamar State College–Orange will restart in fall 2014 on a limited basis.

    Dr. Jay Killgo, Superintendent of Schools for the Vidor Independent School District, was the guest speaker at the Vidor Friends of the Library meeting this past week. Killgo discussed goals for the upcoming year for Vidor ISD and shared success stories, such as improved test scores and student achievement.

  • Summer Camp Fun VISD offers fun summer camp events

    Boys in Vidor ISD Community Education’s summer basketball camp had a great time this past week learning skills and drills. Other camps, which are open to anyone, not just Vidor residents, this summer are cooking, animals, princess camp, pirates, girls’ volleyball, drama, arts and crafts, science, soccer, and running.
