ORANGEFIELD — Orangefield Junior High students Cole Coulter and Sable Reynolds were honored as “Laws of Life” Essay Finalists at a formal banquet held Tuesday, April 16, at the Holiday Inn in Beaumont. They were two of the 10 finalists chosen from over 2,200 student submissions.

Coulter was awarded First Place, as an eighth-grade finalist, and Reynolds, a seventh-grader, was awarded with a Superior for her essay. These students were to be honored by the Orangefield I.S.D. School Board on Monday, April 22, as well.

The Better Business Bureau in Southeast Texas Regional Laws of Life Essay Contest is an ethics-based educational program open to all sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students in Southeast Texas.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has embraced the “Laws of Life” Essay Contest as an important component in developing the character of Southeast Texas youth. The BBB believes that by writing about the “laws” or values by which young people live their lives, students further their knowledge of, and conviction to, good character.

Participating in a writing contest furthers both academic goals and goals of character education. The contest structure also builds participation of the wider community, encouraging business and community members to aid schools and parents in helping young people develop good character.
