Prank call leads to lockdown at VJHS

VIDOR — An apparent prank call led to a lockdown of a local junior high school on Monday.

Vidor Junior High School, located at the corner of North Tram Road and State Highway 12 in Vidor, was placed on lockdown early Monday morning after the Vidor Police Department received a phone call from a person claiming to be a parent of a student stating a “man with tattoos” had been seen in the woods behind the campus.

Police began searching the area and the students at the campus were told to remain in their classrooms, according to Sally Andrews, director of community relations for the Vidor Independent School District.

Vidor Police Department vehicles patrolled the proximity for some time Monday morning, but a “person of interest” was never located and classes resumed as normal.

Police attempted to call back the number used when the call was made, but the number was no longer in service.
