KVLU radio adds new programming

BEAUMONT — Lamar University public radio 91.3 KVLU has announced the acquisition of two programs new to the station’s Saturday afternoon schedule. “This American Life,” a popular spoken-word program will air at noon beginning July 5, followed by “The Moth Radio Hour” at 1 p.m.

“This is great news for our listeners,” said Byron Balentine, station manager for operations. “These programs are in demand and will bring a new and exciting voice to our lineup.”

“This American Life,” an hour-long program that applies the tools of journalism to everyday lives, is hosted and produced by Ira Glass, whom Time Magazine cited as the “best radio host in the country.” The show, which airs on over 500 public radio stations each week, has been described as a documentary show for people who hate documentaries. The show has earned numerous awards for its unique style of journalism including a Peabody and the industry’s highest honor, an Edward R. Murrow award. Contributors include David Sedaris, Anne LaMott, Sarah Vowell and Tobias Wolff, among other notable essayists and authors.

“The Moth Radio Hour” is best described as an hour of true stories told live. The “story behind the story” comes from individuals who submit their ideas to the show. Airing on over 200 public radio stations, “The Moth Radio Hour” recently won a Peabody Award.

“We could not have made this possible without the financial support of our listeners,” Balentine added.

KVLU Public Radio is licensed to Lamar University and provides public radio programming to the Southeast Texas region. For more information about KVLU, go to where you can find out more about programs and make a pledge of support.
