BCHS students make strong show in UIL meet

HAMSHIRE, Texas — Bridge City High School competed at the Hamshire-Fannett UIL Invitational Meet on Friday, Jan. 10, and Saturday, Jan. 11. The following are the results from this contest: In Literary Criticism, Jessica McKinney placed first, Jessica Bean placed second, and Katelyn Mott placed third. The Literary Criticism Team of Jessica McKinney, Jessica Bean, Katelyn Mott, and Tabitha Blakeney took first place. In Ready Writing, Jessica Bean placed second and Jessica McKinney finished in third place. The sponsor for these events is Diane Grooters.

In Spelling, Anna Piper took first place and Richard Thompson finished in third. The Spelling team of Anna Piper, Richard Thompson, Ariel Scoggins, and Thanh Ho took first place. The sponsor for Spelling is Kathie Dorman.

In Accounting, Ciera Mires placed sixth. The sponsor for Accounting is Rene Danna.

In Science, Luke Placette finished in sixth place, and he earned the Top Place Biology Award. The Science team of Luke Placette, Steve Nguyen, Linda Pham, and Kyle Fontenot finished in second place. The sponsor for Science is Daniel Auchenbach.

In LD Debate, Emily Lawrence placed third and Brittany Lauritzen placed fourth. In CX Debate, the team of Colten Cockrell and Madison Underwood finished in fourth place. In Informative Speaking, Emily Lawrence placed second. The sponsor for these events is Michael Blakeney.

In News Writing, Brittney Meeks claimed sixth place. The sponsor for News Writing is Debbie Miller.

In Social Studies, Sidney Schubarth placed second and Greg Sattler placed third. The Social Studies team of Sidney Schubarth, Greg Sattler, Karli Pittman, and Trinity King took second place team. The sponsor for Social Studies is Don Miller.
