St. Mary Catholic School students winners in Shangri La’s Art Contest

ORANGE — St. Mary Catholic School participated in the Shangri La’s Art Contest 2014 along with 5 different schools in Orange County. St. Mary Catholic School is proud to announce that out of 16 awards, St. Mary students received 11 of those awards. Winners will be publicly announced and prizes will be awarded on April 19, at 2:45 p.m. during EcoFest at Shangri La Gardens. The winning artwork will be on display at Shangri La on April 18 and 19. Coy Darby, first place in the Elementary School Division, will have his artwork as the design for Shangri La’s EcoFest T-shirts. Shirts will be available for purchase in Shangri La’s gift shop during EcoFest.

St. Mary Catholic School art teacher is Mrs. Cindy Claybar.

Winners were

Elementary School Division (Grades 1-5):

1st Place: Coy Darby, St. Mary School, 3rd grade

3rd Place: Paris Becker, Orangefield Elementary, 2nd grade

Honorable Mention: Olivia Grant, St. Mary School, 5th grade

Junior High Division (Grades 6-8):

2nd Place: Amber Lester, St. Mary School, 6th grade

3rd Place: Adrian Willingham, St. Mary School, 6th grade

Honorable Mention: Carter Claybar, St. Mary School, 6th grade

Director’s Choice Awards:

1st Grade – Beonca Harvey, St. Mary School

3rd Grade – Lauren Johns, St. Mary School

4th Grade – Montana DiLeo, St. Mary School

5th Grade – Laynie Wright, St. Mary School

8th Grade – Sarah Gonzalez, St. Mary School

    Due to the demand for highly qualified teachers who have received face-to-face instruction by highly experienced master teachers, the Alternative Certification for Educators Program, the ACE program, at Lamar State College–Orange will restart in fall 2014 on a limited basis.

  • Killgo speaks Killgo shares info with Friends of the Library

    Dr. Jay Killgo, Superintendent of Schools for the Vidor Independent School District, was the guest speaker at the Vidor Friends of the Library meeting this past week. Killgo discussed goals for the upcoming year for Vidor ISD and shared success stories, such as improved test scores and student achievement.
