BC Strutters earn honors at regional contest

GALVESTON — The Bridge City Strutters attended the American Dance Galveston Island regional competition recently, where officers earned runner-up overall in small team category. They received a Judges Awards in novelty and modern as well as Outstanding Precision, Outstanding Presentation, and Outstanding Choreography.  They also won Gussie Nell Davis Excellence Award and Sweepstakes. Officers are Captain Ciara Cooper, 1st Lt. Madison Lyons, Lt. Rachel Hecker, Lt. Kristen Young, and Lt. Chassadi Decker.

The Strutter competition team won Sweepstakes and Gussie Nell Davis Excellence Award. They also received Judges Awards in all five categories – contemporary, novelty, kick, open, and prop as well as Outstanding Precision and Outstanding Choreography. They won first runner-up overall in small team category and won Academic Champions overall.

Soloists Raven Cormier Lauren Guidry won solo finalist with Rachel Hecker and Kristen Young winning in the duet category.

Competition team Strutters are Ciara Cooper, Madison Lyons, Ashley Cisneros, Hailey Ashworth, Kayla Gallegos, Karissa Kordish, Rachel Hecker, Kristen Young, Chassadi Decker, Maura Terrell, Hannah Carruth, Jessica Green, Cheska Podnewich, Sydni Beuhler,  Elissa Horner, Raven Cormier, Destin Thomas, Chelsea Savoy, Kylie Castaneda, Sydney Billington, Grace Gaspard, Avery Harris, and Lauren Guidry. Director is Cathy Riley.

    Due to the demand for highly qualified teachers who have received face-to-face instruction by highly experienced master teachers, the Alternative Certification for Educators Program, the ACE program, at Lamar State College–Orange will restart in fall 2014 on a limited basis.

  • Killgo speaks Killgo shares info with Friends of the Library

    Dr. Jay Killgo, Superintendent of Schools for the Vidor Independent School District, was the guest speaker at the Vidor Friends of the Library meeting this past week. Killgo discussed goals for the upcoming year for Vidor ISD and shared success stories, such as improved test scores and student achievement.

  • Summer Camp Fun VISD offers fun summer camp events

    Boys in Vidor ISD Community Education’s summer basketball camp had a great time this past week learning skills and drills. Other camps, which are open to anyone, not just Vidor residents, this summer are cooking, animals, princess camp, pirates, girls’ volleyball, drama, arts and crafts, science, soccer, and running.
