BCHS students advance to UIL Academic Region contest

BRIDGE CITY — Bridge City High School competed at the UIL Academic District Meet held at Bridge City High School on Saturday, March 29. The following are the results from this contest: LD Debate- Emily Lawrence placed second and Brittany Lauritzen placed first. In Informative Speaking, Emily Lawrence took second place and in Persuasive Speaking, Brittany Lauritzen took second place. The sponsor for these events is Michael Blakeney.

In Calculator Applications, Kendall Gibson placed second and Luke Placette placed fourth. The Calculator Applications team of Kendall Gibson, Luke Placette, Brianna Cross, and Kevin Fontenot took second place team. In Mathematics, Luke Placette placed first, Jaden Trahan placed fifth, and Anna Piper finished in seventh place. The Mathematics team of Luke Placette, Jaden Trahan, Anna Piper, and Linda Pham claimed first place. In Science, Jaden Trahan took sixth place. The sponsor for these events is Daniel Auchenbach.

In Prose Interpretation, Bree Cloud finished in fifth place. In Spelling, Anna Piper placed first and Richard Thompson placed second. The Spelling team of Anna Piper, Richard Thompson, Thanh Ho, and Diana Pham won first place. The sponsor for these events is Kathie Dorman.

In Literary Criticism, Jessica McKinney placed first, Jessica Bean placed second, and Katelyn Mott placed third. The Literary Criticism team of Jessica McKinney, Jessica Bean, Katelyn Mott, and Tabitha Blakeney finished in first place. In Ready Writing, Jessica Bean placed third and John Ellis placed fifth. The sponsor for these events is Diane Grooters.

In Editorial Writing, Stacey Sonier placed sixth and in News Writing, Bree Newsom placed fifth. The sponsor for these events is Debbie Miller.

In Social Studies, Karli Pittman placed first, Sidney Schubarth placed second, Greg Sattler placed third, and Trinity King placed fifth. The Social Studies team of Karli Pittman, Sidney Schubarth, Greg Sattler, and Trinity King claimed first place. The sponsor for Social Studies is Don Miller.

Bridge City also was able to capture the UIL District Sweepstakes Award for this meet.

Those students who finished in first, second and third places and all first place teams will advance to the UIL Academic Regional Meet on Saturday, May 3, at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas.

    Due to the demand for highly qualified teachers who have received face-to-face instruction by highly experienced master teachers, the Alternative Certification for Educators Program, the ACE program, at Lamar State College–Orange will restart in fall 2014 on a limited basis.

  • Killgo speaks Killgo shares info with Friends of the Library

    Dr. Jay Killgo, Superintendent of Schools for the Vidor Independent School District, was the guest speaker at the Vidor Friends of the Library meeting this past week. Killgo discussed goals for the upcoming year for Vidor ISD and shared success stories, such as improved test scores and student achievement.

  • Summer Camp Fun VISD offers fun summer camp events

    Boys in Vidor ISD Community Education’s summer basketball camp had a great time this past week learning skills and drills. Other camps, which are open to anyone, not just Vidor residents, this summer are cooking, animals, princess camp, pirates, girls’ volleyball, drama, arts and crafts, science, soccer, and running.
