Dewevyille homecoming parade to start earlier Friday

DEWEYVILLE — The threat of inclement weather has forced a change to the traditional homecoming parade plans in this small Newton County community.

The traditional Deweyville High School homecoming parade start time has been changed to 1 p.m., Friday, which is one hour earlier than its typical 2 p.m. start time because of the threat of rain due to a cold front traveling into Southeast Texas today.

According to school district officials, the parade will begin at 1 p.m. and travel from the old high school parking lot, which is currently Deweyville Middle School, and turn right onto State Highway 12.

The parade will continue its route down Highway 12 to Spur 272, where it will turn right again and continue to its destination.

If rain forces the cancellation of today’s parade, then the event will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, but the parade would then begin on Spur 272 instead of the school parking lot because of the amount of traffic traveling along Highway 12 at that time.
