4 to receive Rogers Community Service Award Wednesday at LU

BEAUMONT — The Lamar University Foundation Inc. will host a program and reception Wednesday, Sept. 23, to honor the four recipients of the 2009 Julie and Ben Rogers Community Service Award.

Regina Rogers, representing the Rogers family, will present the awards during a program in the Dr. Richard L. Price Auditorium in the John Gray Center, 855 E. Florida in Beaumont. The program will begin at 3 p.m., preceding a reception.

Rogers will present the awards to:

• Vickie Dionne, assistant professor of audiology, Lamar University. 

• James Doane, program director and instructor of homeland security, Lamar Institute of Technology. 

• Barbara Huval, director of inmate instruction, Lamar State College-Port Arthur.

• Carolyn Mello, instructor of English, Lamar State College-Orange.

Presidents of the four institutions will profile the recipients and the contributions that led to their selection for the prestigious honor.

The Rogers family established the award in 1979 to encourage Lamar faculty and staff members to volunteer their services and talents to benefit the community. The Lamar University Foundation maintains an endowment that provides for the award.
