Berkheimer will be missed

ORANGE — Orange will miss a certain pastor after 32 years of ministry.

Community Church in Orange recently announced long-time senior pastor Rev. David Berkheimer would step down from the pulpit and hands over his role to the current executive pastor, Rev. Daniel Rose.

Berkheimer, who has pastored the church since March 1979, said he has been thinking about this change for some time.

The church was founded in 1936 as Fist Assembly of God Church. In the early 1970s, the church changed its name to Community Church Assembly of God

During the past 32 years, Berkheimer watched Community Church grow from an average of 200 people on Sundays in 1979 to more then 1,000 a few years ago before hurricanes Rita and Ike diminished the area's population and knocked attendance down to approximately 800 on Sundays now.

Orange was blessed to have a man of Berkheimer's stature in town.

The Leader has also enjoyed publishing his writing each Saturday for over a year.

We welcome in Rev. Rose as a new era starts at this wonderful church.
