News from Cyprus is scary

ORANGE — Call me an idiot. Call me a quack. Call me scared.

Over the last few years I have grown to love conspiracy theories. They fascinate me. There is nothing more interesting to me than learning what could be another side of a story.

Now what I have noticed is in some ways these theories have some truth to them at times.

Take the news out of the country of Cyprus. Here is a country riddled with financial problems. They are flat broke.

So what did the government in Cyprus do? It imposed restrictions on how much people could take out of their bank accounts.

Did you catch that? A government simply told people they could not touch their own money as they saw fit.

Restrictions included only being able to take out 300 euros on a daily basis and a cap of 1,000 euros in cash for people leaving the country.

Cyprus officials have said they hope the restrictions are lifted in a month but the exact time frame cannot be predicted.

This is scary to me in a big way.

Can it happen here in America? Will we ever see our government use this tactic on our citizens?

I would seriously hope not and really don’t think that will happen but I would bet if you asked a person in Cyprus a few months ago the same questions they might have the same answer.

Call me an idiot but this one is a fact.
