Donate to United Way to help less fortunate in OC

As reported in Friday’s Orange Leader, the fundraising drive for the United Way of Orange County kicked off Thursday, with a goal of collection $900,000 before the end of 2009.

We urge Orange County residents to help the organization meet that goal. The United Way helps thousands of people in Orange County with the disbursal of funds to various agencies in the county; with the nation’s and region’s economic downturn, along with the lingering effects of Hurricane Ike, the assistance is needed more now than it has been in a very long time. According to Jennifer Grizaffi, president of the organization’s board of directors, the United Way is seeing more first-time clients as a result of the economy and Hurricane Ike.

We realize many Orange County residents are facing economic troubles of their own. Once again, however, we urge those who can donate to do so. The organization’s work to help those in need is invaluable, and one never knows when one will be in need of its assistance.
