Cheers and Jeers for Friday, Aug. 21

Cheer the sheriff's office for closing an alleged illegal game room operation in Vidor. Eight-liner operations spring up from time to time and try to skirt Texas gambling laws. Until our law changes-gambling is illegal and shouldn't be allowed to exist under the thin veil of prizes in lieu of money.



Cheers to the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce's new website, www.orangetexaschamber.org. The site helps match prospective customers with Chamber businesses and provides good information about the great place we call home.



Jeers to the NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles for the signing of Michael Vick. Everyone deserves a second change yet as we have said before, this is not the second or third chance for Vick. Would you want your daughter dating Vick? Would you want your son hanging out with a convicted felon? It is a shame the Eagles do not visit the Cleveland Browns this year so the Browns could take a bite out of him.



Cheers to the Minnesota Vikings for signing Brett Favre. Favre is much better than any other option the Vikings had on the roster so why not take a chance? The only problem was this gave Orange Leader publisher Eric Bauer a great reason to be in a foul mood for the day, being a Packers’ fan.
