Orange resident does not feel ‘disenfranchised’

I feel I must comment on a recent letter to the editor, “A Call for Change,” by Arlon Davis. While I make no recommendations, I believe there are very few disenfranchised citizens of Orange. I would like to share what I feel and know.

I feel Brown Claybar is possibly the best mayor in the history of the city of Orange, Texas, and that is saying a lot.

I know that he has made decisions that have aggravated and infuriated our new citizens of Orange to the north. He also has made decisions that have aggravated some of the citizens of “Old Orange.”

Having said that, what in the world would Orange, Texas be like now, almost three years after Hurricane Rita, if not for the leadership, support and compassion of our Mayor Brown Claybar. He stood tall and had clear direction in his efforts to rebuild our city. He comes from a family that has shown for over 50 years that they care about our city and its citizens. While you may disagree with him, and I have on several occasions. I have never questioned his loyalty or love for our city.

I believe our city is finally getting back on its feet after decades of being flat on its back. I really feel Brown Claybar has no ulterior motives other than a love for our city and the citizens within its boundaries. All of his efforts have been to make Orange, Texas, a better place to live, work and raise a family.

A dictator, I think not — a loyal servant of Orange, Texas, I think so, and we are a better city for his service.

I believe I have expressed my opinion on whom I feel should be elected mayor in our upcoming election. I respect the right of anyone who might disagree with my choice. In my opinion, it would be more constructive for our citizens to support the candidate of their choice rather than to disrespect or degrade our present mayor, who has himself, as well as his family, meant so much to our city.
