Maurine Davis Lazenby was born September 7, 1922 in San Augustine , Texas to Jimmy Davis and Callie Garrett.
She was the eldest of four daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ollie Curl and Lillie Mae Parks.
Maurine was educated in San Augustine, Texas School District. Maurine united in holy matrimony to Othera Brooks and to this union five children were born. Her husband and two children preceded her in death, a son, James Lewis Brooks , a daughter, Edna Mae Davis.
Maurine was awarded “Woman of the Year” in 1994 by her civic organization, Eureka Progressive Civic and Art Club for services rendered. She was very active in this organization.
She met and married John M. Lazenby, in Orange , Texas on March 31,1951. No children were born to this union.
Maurine was a homemaker and a domestic.
On October 31, 2013 she entered her final place of rest.
Maurine leaves to cherish her memories two sons: Otis J. (Emma) Brooks, I of Fort Washington , Maryland, David A. (Pat) Brooks, I of Marshall, Texas and one daughter Antionette “Callie” Brooks Sterling of Orange , Texas, One sister, Mahilda Moore of Dallas , Texas. Two brothers, Tommy Davis and Rayford Earl Davis. Sixteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren.
Homegoing services will be at Starlight Church of God in Christ, 2800 Bob Hall Road, Orange Texas at 11:00a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013.
