Billy Dean Long, Sr.

ORANGE — Billy Dean Long, Sr., 82, faithful Christian, devoted husband, and loving father,  passed away September 29, 2013.  Bill was born November 18th, 1930 in Norphlet, Arkansas, and was preceded in death by father Samuel Dewey Long, mother Ada Greer Long, brother Bobby Long, sister Lavergne Banks, wife Thelma Kathleen Long, and daughter Sherry Nelwyn Long.  He is survived by sons Dean Long and wife Pat of Starks, La, Dan Long of Bridge City, Mike Long of West Orange, and daughter Kim Detherow and husband David of The Woodlands.  He is also survived by sisters-in-law Pearl (Aunt Sis) Burgess, Beryl Conway and husband Jay, grandchildren Kelly Dean Long, Justin Long, Deanna Laraby, and Candice Delgado along with several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 3rd, from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Calvary Baptist Church of West Orange.  Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Thursday, October 3rd, at Calvary Baptist Church of West Orange with interment to follow at Dorman Cemetery in McLewis.  Serving as pallbearers will be men of Calvary Baptist Church.

Bill, along with his wife Kitty, raised five children whom he loved very much - Sherry, Dean, Danny, Michael, and Kimberly.  We already miss you, Dad.

Sharing his day with friends was one of Bill’s favorite activities.  Whether walking for exercise, enjoying a fresh biscuit, discussing current events, or praying for others, Bill made the most of every day God gave him.

Bill was a retired Baptist preacher who loved the Lord, and loved telling people about Jesus.  His ministry was “And whosever will, let him take the water of life freely."  Revelation 22:17.  Bill enjoyed going to church to worship and fellowship with his brothers and sisters in Christ.  He was also a prayer-warrior and faithfully studied his Bible every day with the goal of a closer relationship with Jesus.  We will miss him so much, but he is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior.  To God be the glory!   ...and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord, forever. Amen.  Psalm 23
