Thomas Michael McNamara, 89, of Beaumont, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. He was born on November 24, 1923, in Orange, to Mary Burkhart McNamara and Francis McNamara, and had been a lifelong resident of the area. Thomas was a former World War II P.O.W. while serving in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a 1950 graduate from Texas A&M and a retired Civil Engineer with Texas Department of Transportation. Thomas loved spending time with his family; and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Russell and her husband, Gene, of Beaumont; sons, Mike McNamara and his wife, Bonnie, of Ostrander, Ohio and Louis McNamara of Houston; grandchildren, Jeff Winney and his wife, Sonia; Tom McNamara and his wife, Sara; and Maxine McNamara; step-grandchildren, Kevin Russell and Greg Russell; step-great-grandchildren, Brent Russell and Braeden Russell.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy McNamara; and brothers, James McNamara and Pat McNamara.
A gathering of Mr. McNamara’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 6825 Gladys Avenue, Beaumont with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Orange.
