Tommy Curtis

ORANGE —      On April 22, 2014, Tommy Curtis went home to be with the Lord. Tommy was born November 13, 1932 to the late James and Alice Curtis in Orange, Texas. Tommy was one of nine children, all of which preceded him in death. He accepted Christ at a very early age and was a faithful member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Orange, Texas. Later he joined the St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church of Austin, Texas. During his years of service at St. Stephens, Mr. Curtis served as choir president, coordinator of the men’s ministry, member of the finance committee and was Ordained as Deacon. He later relocated to the Humble, Texas area in 2006 and became a member of the Ripe Harvest Christian Fellowship where he was appointed one of the elders of the church family.

Tommy was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force as a Korean War Veteran. He later retired from TRW of El Segundo California, Tracor of Austin, Texas and the Texas Workforce Commission of Austin, Texas. Tommy and his family enjoyed life. They traveled, entertained and most importantly, welcomed many to their home, where they consumed numerous pots of gumbo and enjoyed the laughter and fellowship of friends and family. Tommy Curtis was a quiet spirit who loved family, especially his father and mother-in-law, Millie and the late Johnnie Spears.

Tommy met and married the sweetheart of his life, Ophelia Spears Curtis and they celebrated thirty seven joyous years of marriage. Tommy leaves to mourn his memory, three sons of a previous union, Michael G. Curtis (Ann) San Diego, California, James E. Curtis (Michele) Los Angeles, California, Andre D. Curtis (Tina) Los Angeles, California, son Gary L. Caples (Venessa) Austin, Texas, and his baby girl, Alana Rene of Humble, Texas. He was grandfather to twelve grandchildren and great grandfather to four. He also leaves to mourn his memory, his very special nephew, James Curtis; a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

Going home celebration for Mr. Curtis is Saturday, May 3, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 106 W. Park, Orange, Texas 77630; Pastor Ronnie E. Crockett officiating. Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
