Joe Randal Hamerly, 59, of Orange, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 27, 2013 in Port Arthur, Texas. Joe was born on December 4, 1953 in Orange, Texas to his parents, Arthur Hamerly and Betty ( Nelson) Hamerly, he was a lifelong resident of Orange and he worked as a ship fitter and welder in the shipyard industry. Joe was of the Baptist faith, he enjoyed singing and listening to Old Country Music, he enjoyed roller skating and he ran track while in high school at Little Cypress - Mauriceville, a record of Joe's still stands today. Joe enjoyed cooking, barbecuing, fishing, dancing, spending time with his family and friends and following his children’s athletic events. Joe will be remembered by many as a man who loved life, he lived it to the fullest and he cherished his family most.
Joe is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Hamerly; his stepmother, Carlene Hamerly; his mother, Betty Vasek; his stepfather, Robert S. Vasek and his maternal grandmother, Bertha Nelson. Joe leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy, his loving wife and longtime love of thirty-three and one half years, Carolyn Sumrall Hamerly of Orange; his daughter, Melanie Schlemmer and husband, Jason of Mart, Texas; his son, Randy Hamerly and fiancée, Rachel Suire and their daughter, Maggie Gilleland and their soon to arrive daughter, Kathryn Nicole Hamerly; Joe’s sisters, Anne Babb and husband, Robert of Vidor and Barbara Speed and husband, Jimmy of Beaumont; his brothers, Danny Hamerly and wife, Lisa of Orange and their daughter, Jessica Burch and husband, Brent and their daughter Adele; Joe’s brother, Steve Vasek and wife, Shana of Clarksville, Tennessee and their children, Brettne, Keaton and Kaleigh. Joe’s memory will also be cherished by many members of his extended family and friends.
Services by which to celebrate Joe’s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 1, 2013 in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange with Reverend Jerry Gibson, longtime family friend, officiating. Interment will follow services in Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in the McLewis Community of Orange. A gathering of Joe’s family and friends will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Honoring Joe as pallbearers will be Steve Vasek, Danny Hamerly, Randy Hamerly, Jason Schlemmer, Thomas Posey and Johnny King.
