Jack Leroy Anderson, 82, of Hemphill, died Sunday afternoon in his home in Hemphill, Texas. He was born in Compton, CA, to Marshall and Lillian Heasley Anderson. Jack started working in the oil fields when he as thirteen years old, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1952 to 1954, then enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve until discharged as Corporal in 1960. He then worked as millwright in the North Star Steel plant in Vidor, Texas, until he retired in 1991, and moved to Hemphill.
Jack is survived by his son Steven Anderson and his wife Barbara, his daughter Sharon Long and her husband Harold, grandchildren Logan and Sorrell Long, brother Marshall Guy Anderson and his wife Betty, sister-in-law Audrey and husband Troy Rodgers. He was preceded in death by his parents Marshall and Lillian Anderson, brothers; Robert and George Anderson, sister Ruth Anderson Blair, and his wife Dorothy Louise Suggs Anderson.
Visitation will be from 5:00PM until 9:00PM, Thursday, April 18, 2013, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, TX. Graveside services will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, April 19, 2013, in the Fairmount Cemetery, Hwy 87 S., Hemphill, Texas.
