Ruby Lee Anderson, 93, of Orange, formerly of Buna died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at The Meadows in Orange, Texas.
She was born Sept. 22, 1919 in Huntington, TX to Attilean Sowell Jones and Dave R. Jones. At age 16 she married Morriss S. Anderson, who she met at church. They were married over 56 years.
Ruby liked to travel. When Morriss went to California with the Navy at the beginning of World War II, Ruby went along. She worked on base for a while after Morriss left for the South Pacific. After the war they lived in California, eventually moving to Houston, TX.
Morriss went to work at the new paper mill in Evadale, TX and Ruby and Morriss bought a home in Buna. Ruby worked as the bookkeeper at the Buna Ford Dealership, receiving awards from Ford Motor Company. She went on to work for other dealerships, eventually working for the Buna Tax Office and then the Buna Justice of the Peace office. Morris passed away in 1992. Ruby finally retired from Jasper County at the age of 84. She lived in Orange with her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Janet for 8 years. During this time she enjoyed her plants and flowers. She enjoyed being a member of the Eastern Star and served as treasurer for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morriss S. Anderson, her parents, her sister Lois Wilder, nephews David Higgins and Richard Whitaker.
She is survived by her son, Donald Anderson and wife Janet; sister, Nell Higgins and husband C.E.; grandson, Kyle Anderson and wife Christine, and great grandson Knox, grandsons Ryan Anderson and Hayden Anderson; nieces Patty Hans and Lisa Blanco.
Pallbearers will be from Buna Masonic Lodge #1095 AF & AM.
The family would like to thank River City Hospice for all their help and assistance, especially Charlotte Atcher, Amanda Kotz and Eric Coley.
Funeral service will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at First Baptist Church in Buna with burial at Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Buna. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.
