ORANGE — David Charles Schmitt, 87, of Trout Creek died Sunday, July 12, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 26, at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with Bro. Randy Fults officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at Trout Creek Cemetery.

Born July 23, 1925 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Olive Olivia (McCarver) and George Conrad Schmitt, he had lived in the Trout Creek community since 1993 and was a retired tug boat captain with Texaco. He served as a combat veteran during World War II where he was a Coxswain and Rescue Diver in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Katherine; his brother, Gilbert Schmitt; and his sister, Iris Comeaux.

Among survivors is a nephew, David Conrad Schmitt and wife Billie of Boerne; and a nieces, Anita Reed and husband Rodney of Deweyville, Aleta Reeves and husband LJ, and Patricia Zappe and husband Bill.
