Calvin Louis Collins, Sr., 62, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Harbor Hospice Hospital in Beaumont, TX after a short illness. He was born on October 20, 1950 in Texarkana, TX to R. C. and Girthoa Collins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 106 West Park Avenue, Orange, TX with Pastor Ronnie A. E. Crockett, Sr. officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church.
Calvin graduated from Texarkana High School and furthered his education at Prairie View A & M College. In 1973 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and with honor as Cum Laude of his class. Calvin joined the United States Army and was a 1st Lieutenant Chemical Corps. Following an honorable discharge from the army, he returned to Orange. He retired from Honeywell (formerly Allied Signal) as a Chemist after 39 years of service.
He united with Mount Olive Baptist Church and was ordained a deacon. He served as a teacher in Sunday school, Brotherhood president and teacher, Laymen teacher in the Trinity Valley District Association, choir member and City Wide choir member.
Calvin is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Rachell A. Collins of Orange, TX; son, Calvin Collins, Jr.; stepson, Nathan Erwin Warnell, Jr. of Orange, TX; two daughters, Shalaala Collins and Kenya Collins; brother, Roy L. Collins of Texarkana, TX; 7 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
