ORANGE — Betty J. Wade, 72, of Orange, Texas died Friday, January 10, 2014 at Dubuis Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born July 24, 1941 in Rayville, La. to Mary Weaver Cook and Troy Cook.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 1113 N. 2nd Street. Public viewing is scheduled at 11:00 am prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Geter Funeral Home.
Betty was employed with the City of Orange Police Department as a Police Dispatcher; a Community Relations Specialist for the Arthur Robinson Housing Authority and retired after 31 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents (Troy and Mary Cook), brothers Carl Lee Williams (Linda) and Willie R. Cook. Betty is survived by her children Clifford DeWayne Wade of Orange, Texas and Natalie Wade Carlis (Ronnie) of Metairie, La. Also, her special friend Bobby Singley of Detroit, Michigan, her brother JD Cook (Rozenia), sisters Doretha Cook Robinson, Gertha Cook Shaddell, Patricia A. Edwards (Rev. Melvin Edwards) all of Orange, Texas and Alma G. Lane (Emerson) of Beaumont, Texas, Godchildren Danisha Brooks Fitts, Daryl Brooks, Jr., and Playson Melvin Edwards, Jr. She also leaves a host of family and friends.
She volunteered several years at Baptist Orange Hospital as a Red Cross worker, food program at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, and at Shangri La as a guide.
