Orange man sentenced for federal drug violations

A 19-year-old Orange man has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for federal drug violations.

Clifton Merrill Brookshire was sentenced Wednesday for possession with intent to distribute cocaine by United States District Judge Thad Heartfield in the Eastern District of Texas, according to U.S. Attorney John L. Ratcliffe.

According to information presented in court, on March 9, 2006, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Brookshire’s Orange residence where they discovered 1,968 tablets of ecstasy, a handgun and $3,199 in cash. Brookshire pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine on Sept. 21, 2006.

This case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Beaumont Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Rawls.
