A special event this Thursday will celebrate life while providing help to an agency which assists others.
The Southeast Texas Hospice yearly event, also known as the “Toilet Paper Tea,” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday at 912 W. Cherry in Orange upstairs in the hospice office. The public is invited to attend this gathering of family, friends and community.
The purpose of the event, according to Mary McKenna, director of Southeast Texas Hospice, is to assist the organization through donations of supplies and goods so it may better serve its clients by utilizing the hospice budget to provide more care for terminally ill patients and their families.
Items requested for donations include office cleaning supplies or operation items, such as light bulbs, large plastic bags, coffee, creamer, sugar, dishwasher soap, toilet bowl cleaner, liquid hand soap, staples, black pens, scratch pads, and index cards.
Other items which are always needed include paper clips, glue sticks, white out, folder labels, and toilet paper and paper towels. Donations of all sizes are welcome and encouraged.
Refreshments will be served throughout the event as people bring donations and socialize with one another. The hospice memorial Dove tree will be on display. Each Dove carries the name of a loved one, living or deceased, and it can be placed on the tree for a donation of $10 or more. McKenna said the Dove tree is a great way for family members and friends to honor loved ones at this special time of year.
Donations through the Dove tree also allows hospice to better serve the public.
