Tekoa Academy relocates to new facility in Orange

ORANGE — Tekoa Academy will begin its 14th year of providing additional educational opportunities to area youth this week and will also open its new location in Orange.

Tekoa Academy of Accelerated Studies STEM School will resume classes at 7:45 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3, at its three campuses in Southeast Texas. These locations include two in Port Arthur, at 326 Thomas Blvd. and 3119 Gulfway Drive, plus its newest location at 1408 W. Park Ave. in Orange.

According to Danielle Tatman, this is the sixth year for Tekoa Academy in Orange and the first at its new location.

“This is actually our facility,” she said. “And we are so excited about the move. Being in our own facility will allow us to a lot more of the things we have been wanting to do.”

Tatman said Tekoa Academy wants to be more involved in the community and this new facility on West Park will allow it to do so.

“It’s about fellowship and involvement with the community, and one of the first things we will be doing is our Fall Fest,” Tatman stated. “And that will happen very son.”

Tekoa is a STEM School recognized for a rigorous curriculum of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and it is currently enrolling students from Pre-K3 year-old through fifth-grade. Tekoa also offers a variety of extra-curricular activities for its students and many special programs for the parents of its students.

The Tekoa Academy in Orange is now under the direction of Mrs. Pearlie Gunn, who has 38 years of experience as an educator and most recently worked for the West Orange-Cove Consolidated Independent School District.

“We are a tuition free school and still enrolling students,” Tatman added. “We’re so excited about the coming school year and ready to get to work.”
