BEAUMONT — One man is dead and another man was injured after their tractor trailer was struck by a train Tuesday morning.

Joseph Grant, a 22-year-old man from Kountze, Texas, died after the trailer of the semi truck he was a passenger in became stuck on railroad tracks on State Highway 90 near the ExxonMobil plant outside of Beaumont was struck by a train.

The incident occurred at approximately 8 a.m., Tuesday when the Union Pacific train, which was traveling east on the tracks, struck the trailer which was carrying heavy equipment.

According to information provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver of the vehicle, Jimmy Roberson of Livingston, Texas, remained inside the truck while his passengers, Grant and 19-year-old Andrew Cain of Beaumont, exited the truck to determine why the trailer was “lodged” on tracks at the railroad crossing.

Roberson, 42, was transported by medical helicopter to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with unspecified injuries. Cain was not injured.

The incident remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
