K-9 units find man hiding under shed following assault

VIDOR — One person is in jail and one person is in the hospital following an altercation involving a hammer on Monday.

According to a press release from the Beaumont Police Department, dispatch personnel received a call pertaining to a disturbance shortly after 7:45 a.m., Monday, in the 1900 block of Pope Street involving a man and his ex-girlfriend.

Police say the unidentified man was involved in a dispute with his ex-girlfriend when the situation escalated and he grabbed a hammer and struck the woman in the head. Police stated another man attempted to intervene, but the attacker fled the scene on foot. The incident occurred across the street from the Beaumont Independent School District’s Paul Brown Alternative Center, which was placed on lockdown by administrators as a safety precaution.

Police called for backup, including K-9 units, as a foot search of the neighborhood began. The manhunt included a search of several homes and property in the area of Pope, Tulane, Renaud and St. Helena Street. The K-9 unit was able to track and locate the individual, who was reportedly found hiding under a shed behind a house on Delaware.

The unidentified woman was transported to a hospital in Beaumont where she remains under observation for her injuries.

The identities of the people involved in the assault have not been released as of late Monday.
