Sells for disposal passes and annual stickers for collection site begin

ORANGE — Orange County now has annual window stickers and disposal passes on sale at the Road and Bridge Office and at the Tax Office in Orange and Vidor.

“The stickers and passes will not be sold at the Collection Site,” County Engineer Carl Slacum said during the announcements at the Orange County Commissioners Court on Monday, “There are no funds at the site.”

There is no need for a sticker for those solely using the recycle portion of the site.

The court issued a proclamation recognizing May as National Mental Health Awareness month. Commissioners Court helps appoint the board members of Spindletop Center. Spindletop covers Orange, Jefferson, Hardin and Chambers County.

The court also proclaims Thursday, May 23, 2013 as Benny Smith Day. Smith has worked for the WO-S ISD for 33 years and recently announced retiring as principal of WO-S Elementary.

Commissioners approved a resolution to nominate International Paper as a Double Jumbo Enterprise project to the state. The resolution is to show support for the company which plans to retain the number of employees and spend $150 million in capital in Orange County over the five year period of the project.

The court approved County Judge Carl Thibodeaux to sign a Collective Working Agreement between the county and Legacy Community Health Services, Inc. for providing healthcare and medicine for HIV and AIDS patients. The persons would need to be certified by Orange County before receiving the care at Legacy.

“There is no county funding involved,” Thibodeaux said. “It is all federal and state funding.”

The county entered into an agreement with iDocket.com for providing access to the scanned records of the District and County Clerk’s Offices.

County employees will be able to access the records in 69 counties at no cost. The county will receive 20% of the revenues generated by those who do search or access documents.

A representative if iDocket said that attorneys and bondsmen are the main customers.

There is a fee per query at the site and $1 a page to access the documents.

The purchasing agent will advertise for bids for the CIAP Grant Round II for the installation of on-site sewer at various locations in Vidor. The grant is for $734,000.

The court approved all non-inventory and inventory items currently in surplus to be sold in an upcoming on-line auction.

“So moved!,” Commissioner Pct. 3 John Banken said.

“Let’s sell this stuff,” Thibodeaux said.

The county has moved several items to surplus in recent months in anticipation of the on-line auction. The date for the auction is yet to be announced.

Commissioners Court will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 due to Monday being a holiday.
