Campaigns to be decided with election Saturday

ORANGE — A total of 12 races and a bond election will be decided in seven local elections being held Saturday across Orange County.

Elections will be held from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., Saturday, May 11, for positions on four city councils and three school districts Board of Trustees in Orange County.

Early voting ended this past Tuesday and each race had moderate numbers, except the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District which is holding a Trustee election and a $56 million bond election.

ORANGE

The City of Orange will have only two contested races this May.

Cullin Smith, the District 2 incumbent, will be opposed by challenger Tommy Ferguson, while Annette Pernell, incumbent for District 4, will be opposed by Mary McKenna.

Bill Mello, the incumbent for at-large Position 5, is unopposed.

Citizens voting in the District 2 race may do so from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, at Little Cypress Intermediate, 1950 Allie Payne Road. Voters in District 4 may submit ballots at West Orange-Stark Middle School, 1402 W. Green Ave.

A total of 482 ballots were submitted during the early voting period.

WEST ORANGE

The City of West Orange is also set to have an election as three candidates seek two seats on city council.

Incumbents Mike Trahan and Charles Winter will seek re-election this May, but candidate Wayne Wiggins looks to make a run for a seat on the at-large council.

Mayor Roy McDonald is unopposed.

Residents may vote Saturday at West Orange City Hall, 2700 Western Avenue. A total of 45 ballots were submitted during the early voting period.

BRIDGE CITY

The City of Bridge City will have an election as well this May with two races being opposed.

Incumbent Kevin Mott, Place 1, will be opposed by former councilperson Lucy Fields this May, and Robert Simonton Jr., the Place 3 incumbent, will face challenger Steve Quibodeaux.

Richard Savoy, the Place 5 incumbent, is unopposed.

The City of Bridge City has announced a polling location change for Saturday’s general election. The new polling location is at the Bridge City Independent School District’s Administration Building, located at 1031 W. Roundbunch Road.

A total of 252 ballots were submitted by voters during the early voting period.
