Early voting for May general election begins Monday

ORANGE — Let the voting begin!

Early voting for the May general election begins Monday across Orange County as voters will decide the outcome numerous races for seats on city council and school boards, as well as a bond election for one local school district.

Early voting begins Monday, April 29 and continues until Tuesday, May 7. Election day is Saturday, May 11.


The City of Orange will have only two contested races this May.

Cullin Smith, the District 2 incumbent, will be opposed by challenger Tommy Ferguson, while Annette Pernell, incumbent for District 4, will be opposed by Mary McKenna.

Bill Mello, the incumbent for at-large Position 5, is unopposed.

The early voting location is at the Orange Public Library. Early voting hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday, April 29; Wednesday, May 1 through Friday, May 3; and Monday, May 6. Extended early voting hours are from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 30 and again on Tuesday, May 7.


The City of West Orange is also set to have an election as three candidates seek two seats on city council.

Incumbents Mike Trahan and Charles Winter will seek re-election this May, but candidate Wayne Wiggins looks to make a run for a seat on the at-large council.

Mayor Roy McDonald is unopposed.

Early voting hours for the City of West Orange election are 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday, April 29 and Monday, May 6. From Tuesday, April 30 to Friday, May 3, and, on Tuesday, May 7, early voting hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. The early voting location is West Orange City Hall, 2700 Western Ave.


The City of Bridge City will have an election as well this May with two races being opposed.

Incumbent Kevin Mott, Place 1, will be opposed by former councilperson Lucy Fields this May, and Robert Simonton Jr., the Place 3 incumbent, will face challenger Steve Quibodeaux.

Richard Savoy, the Place 5 incumbent, is unopposed.

The City of Bridge City has announced a change for the upcoming May 11 general election. The new polling location is the Bridge City Independent School District’s Administration Building, located at 1031 W. Roundbunch Road. There will be no voting during the early voting period or election day at the Bridge City High School gymnasium as in previous years.

Early voting is from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, and 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 7.
