Special to The Leader
The Orange Leader
The Muscular Dystrophy Association raised over $35,000 in gross proceeds by rounding up Orange top executives and business leaders on Thursday, October 10, 2013 for the annual Orange Lock-Up. Forty-two prominent citizens were arrested with the special help of the Granger Chevrolet, Orange Police Department, Vidor Police Department, David Self Ford, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
These golden jailbirds were taken to The Brown Estate, where they were booked and their official mug shots were taken. Everyone was found guilty of having a “big heart” and reprimanded to an hour stay with lunch provided by the staff at The Brown Estate. Participants were encouraged to raise their bail in advance by contacting family, friends, and business contacts; in addition, a special web site was set up to raise money online. The community lent their support with donations and pledges toward the jailbird’s $1,600 bail, which helps provide vital services for approximately 300 Southeast Texas families living neuromuscular diseases.
The top jailbird, Chad Havens of Bridgefield Electrical Services, raised $2,830 for MDA.
Special thanks to all the great “jailbirds” and volunteers for helping with this great event. MDA is a nonprofit health care organization and receives no United Way or government funding.
