Orange resident returns from Afghanistan

ORANGE — Lt Co David Haworth, of Orange, returned from a six month tour in Afghanistan recently.

Haworth was met by his wife, Kathy and his son, Christopher, at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia.

“I am real proud of him,” Paul Riley, grandfather, said. “We are hoping he will be here for Christmas.”

This was Haworth’s second tour in Afghanistan and one of eleven pilots to return last week. Haworth has also served in Kuwait during his time in service.

Haworth is the Commander for the 74th fighter squadron known as the Flying Tigers.

“He was with the same squadron for both tours,” Mike Haworth, father, said. “He is scheduled for a change of command November 1.”

Haworth said he hopes his son will have a chance to come home for a visit before his next assignment.

“He will be going to NATO Command School in Rome,” Haworth said. “The whole family will be going and yes, we plan to visit.”

Over the next week roughly 400 airmen will be returning home from Afghanistan. The eleven pilots that returned this evening were part of Moody's 74th fighter squadron.
