UPDATE: Murder suspect turns self in

ORANGE — Christopher Philmon, 22, is currently in the Orange County Correctional Facility with charges of kidnapping and murder of his uncle, Roy James Philmon, 50.

Orange Police Officers responded to unusual circumstances involving a welfare check at 12:34 a.m. Monday at 407 Bilbo in Orange.

Officers attempted to make contact with the Roy Philmon including contacting his place of employment and other family members. Upon unsuccessfully locating Philmon, the officers entered the residence.

Officers found Philmon on the floor in a bedroom and it appeared he had been stabbed.

An investigation revealed the suspect in the homicide was the victim’s nephew, Christopher Philmon who lived at the residence with the victim.

Initially the suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle.

Christopher Philmon walked into a store on Hwy. 290  at approximately 9:30 .m. Monday in Houston and asked the clerk to call the police.

He then turned himself in to the Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy that responded to the scene.

Bond has been set at $600,000.
