County grand jury returns indictments

The Orange County grand jury met this week and returned an indictment against James Birdette Webb,43, for intoxication manslaughter.

Webb is accused of being intoxicated April 26 and being involved in a vehicle accident when he was driving that resulted in a 40-year-old woman passenger dying when he struck a trailer.

According to reports, Webb was driving a stolen 1994 Saturn at a high rate of speed in the 8300 block of Highway 87 when he struck the trailer of a pickup hauling a farm tractor. Both Webb and the woman were transported to a Beaumont hospital, where she later died. Webb received non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the pickup was not injured.

Other indictments returned include:

• Johnny D. Pantalion, 42, Vidor, unauthorized use of a vehicle — Paantalion is accused of borrowing a car and not returning it;

• Leslie Shawn Ryder, 34, Vidor, felony forgery — Ryder is accused of stealing a checkbook and passing several forged checks at different locations in Vidor;

• Troy Wilson Hebert, 45, Vidor, felony possession of a controlled substance — Hebert is accused of being in possession of cocaine following a traffic stop by the Vidor Police Department;

• Laurie Beth Louvier, 27, Orange, securing execution of a document by deception — Louvier is accused of lying about her employment income in order to obtain excessive welfare benefits;

• Anna Lissa Returan, 37, Orange, securing execution of a document by deception — Returan is accused of lying about her income in order to obtain excessive welfare benefits;

• Jacqueline Linnae Abshire, 25, Orange, securing execution of a document by deception — Abshire is accused of lying about her husband’s employment income in order to obtain excessive welfare benefits;

• Steven Marcus Crew, 37, Orange, felony possession of a controlled substance — Crew is accused of being in possession of cocaine following a traffic stop by the Orange Police Department;

• Thomas Ray Atkins, 39, Orange, felony evading arrest or detention — Atkins is accused of using a vehicle to flee from police; his vehicle struck a tree after a short pursuit;
