Phillips seeks Vinton Chief of Police position

VINTON, La. — A man with nearly 30 years of experience wants to be the next chief of police in this Southwest Louisiana community.

Arthur Phillips is seeking to be the next Chief of Police in Vinton, La. on the election which will be held Saturday, April 6.

Phillips has 29 years of law enforcement experience. He is a former Vinton Police officer who also worked as a Patrolman Supervisor and Lieutenant. Phillips worked at the Vinton Police Department for 9 years and is currently working as a Deputy Marshal.

Phillips was named Detective of the Year in 2009; he received recognition for his undercover operations, and most notably for successful seizures of large amounts of narcotics and currency. Phillips is certified in criminal patrol, burglary, robbery, United States Customs, fingerprints, intoxilyzer, asset forfeiture, TWIC, taser instruction, radar, physical inspection and other areas. Phillips also received training for sex offender cases.

Phillips wants to offer training for officers and dispatchers to help improve the effectiveness of the Vinton Police Department. Phillips also wants to recruit Reserve officers and reopen the jail. “Increasing police presence and visibility in neighborhoods is important,” Phillips said. “I want to develop and implement programs for police officers, youth, elderly, and the community-at-large to work together to build a renewed sense of trust and confidence in our department,” he added.

Phillips will work to secure grant funding for training, additional police vehicles and equipment, and community initiatives.
