Students from Orangefield High School earned several honors at the UIL District Meet this past weekend.
Orangefield High School students participated in the 21-3A UIL Academic District Meet on Saturday. In Persuasive Speaking, Gage Counts placed fifth. In Spelling and Vocabulary, Kimanh Tsan placed first and Thanh Tsan placed third. The Spelling team of Tsan, Tsan, Shelby Williams and Sage Granger won first place.
In Ready Writing, Jeffery Kam placed fifth. In News Writing, Lauren Davis placed fifth and Jamie Beaulieu placed sixth. In Feature Writing, Carrie Grace Henderson placed second and Kirsten Wolfford placed sixth. In Editorial Writing, Lauren Davis placed second and Jamie Beaulieu placed fourth. In Headline Writing, Jamie Beaulieu placed fourth. The Orangefield Journalism team was the second place team.
In Prose Interpretation, Carrie Grace Henderson placed 4th and Kirsten Wolfford placed fifth. In Poetry Interpretation, Rachael Hunnicutt placed sixth. In Current Issues, Gage Counts placed first and Casey Smith placed third. The team of Counts, Smith, Kirby Clayton, and Courtney Naquin was the first place Current Issues team.
In Computer Applications, Luke Johnson placed second, Eric Truncale placed third and Kimanh Tsan placed fifth. In Science, Maggie Hebert placed fifth. Daniel Gilson took first place in the Top Physics award and Chris LaChance finished in second place in the Top Biology award.
In addition, Carrie Grace Henderson was named to the All Star Cast for One Act Play and Tristan Dunn was Honorable Mention. Thirteen participants will be advancing to the regional competition in April.
