New council members take oath of office

Council Member District 3 Essie Bellfield said she thought it was a disgrace so few voters turned out for Saturday’s election.

“There are 20,000 people in Orange, and only 800 turned out to vote,” Bellfield said during the Tuesday morning meeting. “It is a disgrace to the City of Orange.”

Newly elected Council member District 4 Mary McKenna won the seat with a 4 vote lead against Annette Pernell.

Newly elected Council member District 2 Tommy Ferguson beat out Cullin Smith with a lead of 130 votes.

A total of 882 total votes were caste in the election.

Shirley Beauchamp will remain Mayor Pro Tem.
