Tequila Sunrise claims victory at Texas Bar-B-Q Festival Cook-off

VIDOR —

The Tequila Sunrise BBQ team is the Grand Champions of the 2013 Texas Bar-B-Q Festival.

Tequila Sunrise BBQ defeated 18 other cook-off teams and was declared the winner of the 2013 Texas Bar-B-Q Festival in Vidor this past weekend. The team, led by Kevin Miller, won the brisket division and placed third in the pork spare ribs contest and fifth in the chicken division.

The Take It To The Bank BBQ team was declared Reserve Grand Champion. The team, led by Allan Freeman, won the chicken division and finished second in brisket, but fell short of the overall victory after finishing ninth in the pork spare ribs.

Results are as follows:

Brisket: 1. Tequila Sunrise BBQ, 2. Take It to The Bank, 3. Polk Chop Cookin’

Ribs: 1. Hale of a Good BBQ, 2. Star G Bar B Q, 3. Tequila Sunrise BBQ

Chicken: 1. Take It to The Bank, 2. Polk Chop Cookin’, 3. We Smoke

Other categories had several participants and winners as well.

Brent McDonald of Twisted Q won the beans contest, while the “mystery” ingredient contest was won by Beau LaCaze of Bourbon Legends. Javin Lovell won the “Kids Que” contest for children ages 5 to 10, and Breigh Mauboules placed first and Kevin Jones second in the “Kids Que” contest for children ages 12 to 17.

The Texas Bar-B-Q Festival Cook-off Competition is an officially sanctioned event of the International Barbeque Cookers Association.
