A former educator at a private school has been sentenced to probation after entering a guilty plea to having an improper relationship with a student.
Valerie Danielle Sonnier of Orange was sentenced to six years probation after she plead guilty this past month to two charges of having an improper relationship with a student while she was teaching at Community Christian School in Orange in 2012. She must also pay a fine of $1,000 per charge.
Sonnier was given her sentence on Friday, Feb. 15, in the 128th District Court of Orange County by Judge Courtney Arkeen.
Sonnier, 30, will never be able to teach again as she had to surrender her teacher’s certification. She is also not allowed to have contact with the teenager.
Sonnier was suspended from her job by the school when the incident involving the relationship with the teenage male student was reported.
