Body of missing woman found in Newton County

NEWTON COUNTY, Texas — The body of a woman missing for one week has been located in a heavily wooded area north of Mauriceville.

According to reports, Joshua Latham, who was arrested for a felony probation violation recently and was considered a person of interest in the disappearance of Tami Higginbotham, led police to the woman's body shortly before 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15 on the property of a private hunting club located off State Highway 62 in Newton County, which is north of Mauriceville.

Newton County Sheriff Eddie Shannon has confirmed to one news source that the body discovered has been identified as that of Higginbotham.


A man wanted by Orange Police Department officers has been arrested in Maryvillle, Tenn.

Joshua Latham, 26 of Orange, was arrested for a felony probation violation and officers also wanted to question Latham about the disappearance of Tami Higginbotham.

A press release sent out by OPD stated Latham had family in Tennessee and was arrested at about 8 p.m. Thursday night.

Latham's girlfriend and baby were with him and were reported to be safe.

Detectives with OPD and the Texas Rangers are headed to Tennessee to interview Latham concerning Higginbotham's disappearanace.

Higginbotham, 41, was last seen Friday afternoon (Feb. 8) and was headed to Orange. Her vehicle was found on Simmons Drive at Blue Bird's Fish Camp.
