BEAUMONT — An early morning traffic stop Tuesday resulted in the seizure of more than 100 pounds of a synthetic substance and the arrest of one person.

The Beaumont Police Department stopped a vehicle traveling on Interstate 10 East near Walden Road in Beaumont shortly after 12:15 a.m., Tuesday. After obtaining permission from the driver of the 2012 Volkswagen automobile, police found approximately 117 pounds of synthetic marijuana in the trunk.

The driver, who police said had been acting suspiciously, was also found to be carrying approximately $5,000 in cash. The vehicle also contained a large amount of commercial packaging, so Tuesday’s seizure also prevented the synthetic marijuana from being packaged and sold in public convenience stores and other businesses.

The driver of the vehicle remains unidentified, but is reported to be facing 2nd degree felony charges for possession of synthetic marijuana.
