WEST ORANGE — The City of West Orange Volunteer Fire Department is growing.

The city council approved the membership of Dayn Gray as a volunteer Fire fighter. Gray, a former junior fire fighter is returning after a leave of absence.

An application for the West Orange Volunteer Fire Department is available at the West Orange Volunteer Fire Department website at http://www.cityofwestorange.com/website/firedepartment.aspx

The council was presented with the FY 2012 Audit Report by Allen Sanderson of Sanderson, Knox & Co., LLP.

“The city has a clean report,” Sanderson said. “You had a good year and are in good standing.”

West Orange Mayor Roy McDonald said he was proud of the staff in the city.

“We buy what we need,” McDonald said. “And we need what we buy.”

McDonald said it was because of the staff that the city is in good financial standing.

The mayor appointed a committee to review ordinance no. 230-G pertaining to sanitation service.

The members of the committee are City Attorney Joe Alford, Chief of Police Michael Stelly, City Secretary Theresa Van Meter and Councilman Mike Trahan.

Section 2, Part A of the ordinance states every owner or occupant of every active business or occupied residence within the City of West Orange, Texas is at all times required to be enrolled with a garbage pickup service that has a valid franchise to provide collection services within the city.

The section also states when the owner or occupant is no longer considered enrolled and how to re-enroll in service.

The mayor asked the committee to return at the 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11 meeting with recommendations on how to change the wording so that it may be more clear.
