Port Arthur man dies after being struck by vehicles

BRIDGE CITY — A Port Arthur man died early Wednesday after being struck by two vehicles.

Brandy Lee Purkey of Port Arthur was killed early Wednesday morning after he was struck by two vehicles after he reportedly walked into a lane of traffic.

According to information from the Bridge City Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m., Wednesday, on State Highway 73/87 just south of the LaQuinta Inn in Bridge City.

Purkey, 29, reportedly stepped into the westbound lane of traffic and was struck by Dodge van and a Ford truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene and Judge Janice Menard, Orange County Justice of the Peace of Precinct 3, called for an inquest.

Along with the Bridge City Police Department, units with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Bridge City Fire and Rescue, McLewis Volunteer Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
