Orange County holds online auction

ORANGE — Orange County Commissioners Court has spent recent weeks approving moving inventory to surplus in anticipation of an online auction.

Viewing items up for bid is available Wednesday, however bidding will not begin until Wednesday, June 26 and end 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9.

The online auction is conducted by Rene Bates Auctioneers, Inc.

Purchasing Agent Connie Cassidy said there are pictures for all the items.

“There are specifics on some of the items,” Cassidy said when asked if it would show if items were in working condition or not.

Items listed include snow skis, golf clubs, gooseneck trailer, and various computers.

A detailed list of the items and instructions for registering is available at www.renebates.com.

Questions relating to the sale can be directed to the Orange County Purchasing Department at 882-7900.

County Judge Carl Thibodeaux said it is legal for everyone to bid on the items.

“I checked into the legalities,” Thibodeaux said. “Anyone can bid on the items, County, elected officials, everyone.”

The court approved the Purchasing Agent to advertise for bids on the county’s annual requirements for Pharmacy Service for the prescriptions delivered to the jail.

Commissioners also approved the line item transfer for Road and Bridge Contingency to Waste Disposal Fees for the amount of $30,000. The transfer is to provide funds for the remainder of the year.

The budget was cut by $90,000 for the 2012-2013 fiscal year in anticipation of the installation of the compactors. The equipment was not installed as soon as inspected and the early part of the year saw an increase in the number of people using the Collection Site.

“There has been a drop in the number of people from an average of 300 down to 102,” County Engineer Clark Slacum said. “The site has only been open two Saturdays since we started the fee program.”
